I'm Gonna Fight It They tell me it’s my destiny To live without your love. They tell me that my fate was sealed In heaven up above. But I’m gonna fight it, yeah, fight it Long as the world spins ‘round. I’m gonna fight it, yeah, fight it ‘til they lay me in the ground. You say there’s only one true love Intended just for you, You’ll meet him when your stars align, There’s nothing I can do But I’m gonna fight it, yeah, fight it Long as the world spins ‘round. I’m gonna fight it, yeah, fight it ‘Til they lay me in the ground. And when my life is over, And it’s time for my last goodbye, You can tell me that I lost my battle, But you can’t say I didn’t try… They tell me that the way things are Is how they’re meant to be, But I’ll defy the universe To win your love for me Yeah, I’m gonna fight it, yeah, fight it Long as the world spins ‘round. I’m gonna fight it, yeah, fight it ‘til they lay me in the ground.

Somebody Played a Joke on Me I was meant to be tall and good-looking. I’m just an average guy. I was meant to have a way with the ladies, Not just a way to make them say goodbye. Looks like somebody played a joke on me. Looks like somebody played a joke on me. This is not the way my life was meant to be; Somebody played a joke on me. I was meant to be rolling in money, But it keeps rolling away. I was meant to have a life full of leisure. I don’t know why I gotta work all day. Looks like somebody played a joke on me. Looks like somebody played a joke on me. This is not the way my life was meant to be; Somebody played a joke on me. On the day that I was born the angels got together And decided they could use a laugh or two. They took away the perfect life that I was meant to lead And made me live the way that I do. I was meant to do things great and mighty. I’m doing laundry instead. I was meant to leave something behind me, But now I find it hard to leave my bed. Looks like somebody played a joke on me. Looks like somebody played a joke on me. This is not the way my life was meant to be; Somebody played a joke on me.

My Dog Likes Your Dog I see you 'round the neighborhood, Walking your dog down the street. It's nice that after all this time We should finally meet. And I don't want to sound too crazy. Still I think it's a sign That my dog likes your dog and yours likes mine. Just look how nice they get along, Like they were meant to be friends. Perhaps some other night this week We can do this again. And if I ask you for your number Am I crossing the line? 'Cause my dog likes your dog and yours likes mine. And you don't have to find out That I just bought this dog today, Just to meet you, Just to have something to say. And if this doesn't work out Tell me what am I s'posed to do 'Cause I don't want to have this dog at all If i can't have you. Now you might have another guy With a dog of his own, But if you're free tomorrow night Why not throw me a bone? And you can bring some bits and kibbles. Honey, I’ll bring some wine 'Cause my dog likes your dog and yours likes mine. Yeah, my dog likes your dog and yours likes mine. Oh, baby, my dog likes your dog and yours, yours likes mine. Oooo…

You Got It Made I checked out all the pictures you’ve posted And all the news you’re sharing online. I don’t know much about the life you lead, But I’m sure it’s better than mine. You got it made, as everyone knows. Some folks are lucky; that’s just how it goes. Life’s just a game, and yours is well-played. Why not admit it? You got it made. Your lady’s always looking so lovely. Your children seem like gifts from above. I don’t know much about the job you have, But I’m sure it’s something you love. You got it made, as everyone knows. Some folks are lucky; that’s just how it goes. Life’s just a game, and yours is well-played. Why not admit it? You got it made. Once I heard you had a problem. I knew it wasn’t true. ‘Cause the bad things that happen to me never happen to you You’ll prob’ly live forever and ever, But if by chance some day you should die, If it is true that there’s an afterlife I’m sure you’re heading straight for the sky. You got it made, as everyone knows. Some folks are lucky; that’s just how it goes. Life’s just a game, and yours is well-played. Why not admit it? You got it made. You got it made…

I Saw Something in You I knew the moment I met you That you were one of my kind; I knew just what you were thinking Like I was reading your mind. I knew we made a connection And we had so much to share. Oh, but I saw something in you that wasn’t there. I picked up all of the signals That you were sending my way. It seemed so easy to follow What you were trying to say. I told myself you could love me; I told myself you could care. Oh, but I saw something in you that wasn’t there. I saw something in you, something that I wanted to see, And it’s not your fault that it’s not who you are Or anything you want to be. I knew the moment I met you That you were one of my kind, But that was just a reflection Of what I had in my mind. I thought I saw you so clearly -- Looks like my visions impaired, ‘Cause I saw something in you that wasn’t there. Yeah, I saw something in you that wasn’t there. Oh, I saw something in you that wasn’t there.

Plusses and Minuses You’ve got some things you want me to know, But I don’t want to hear them. You’ve got some things you’ve wanted to show, But I just won’t get near them. I know you’ve got your bad points; Don’t let it get to you. We’ve all got plusses and minuses too. You’ve got some sins you want to confess, But that’s not necessary. You’ve got some issues you want addressed I’d just as soon see buried. I know you’ve made mistakes; Don’t let it make you blue. We’ve all got plusses and minuses too. We’ve all got plusses and minuses, and so it’s understood You’ve got to hide the bad inside of the good. I’ve got some faults as big as your own, It’s just that I conceal them. I do these bad things when I’m alone, But I just don’t reveal them. Nobody here is perfect, There’s nothing you can do. We’ve all got plusses and minuses too. We’ve all got plusses and minuses, and so it’s understood You’ve got to hide the bad inside of the good. We’ve all got plusses and minuses. We’ve all got plusses and minuses. We’ve all got plusses and minuses too.

Funny Money 02:56
Funny Money You got a way to make me trust that every word you say is true. You got a way to let me down but make me think that I.O.U. Your love is like funny money; it seems so real to me, But every time I hold it to the light it’s not what it’s spposed to be. Your love is like funny money; it isn’t worth a single dime, But like funny money it still fools me every time. How can you tell me you’re mine and then go out with other men? How can you act like you’re invested, then lose interest once again? Your love is like funny money; it seems so real to me, But every time I hold it to the light it’s not what it’s s’pposed to be. Your love is like funny money; it isn’t worth a single dime, But like funny money it still fools me every time. Your love is nothing but a game of let’s pretend. What good is money I can’t save and I can’t spend? I don’t know why I keep believing you will ever change your ways. I guess I give you too much credit though I know that never pays. Your love is like funny money; it seems so real to me, But when I try to take it to the bank it’s not what it’s spposed to be. Your love is like funny money; it isn’t worth a single dime, But like funny money it still fools me every time. Funny money, funny money, Funny money, it isn’t worth a single dime. Funny money, funny money, Funny money, it still fools me every time.

It's a Jungle Out There You always said you felt so safe and secure here with me; You always told me there was no better place you could be. But now you say you need a change, and it’s time that you go. Before you leave me, baby, there’s just one thing you should know. It’s a jungle out there – you know only the strongest survive. It’s a jungle out there – watch your back or they’ll eat you alive. There are creatures out there in the darkness Who will rip out your heart on a dare, So beware: it’s a jungle out there. You know you always had my loving to shield you from harm. I built a fortress to protect you right here in my arms. But now you say it’s just a cage and it’s time you break free. Just stop and listen, darling, before you walk out on me. It’s a jungle out there – you know only the strongest survive. It’s a jungle out there – watch your back or they’ll eat you alive. There are creatures out there in the darkness Who will rip out your heart on a dare, So beware: it’s a jungle out there. You don’t have to take my word for it; You’ll soon find out for yourself When the world beats you down and there’s no one around When you’re crying for help. It’s a jungle out there – you know only the strongest survive. It’s a jungle out there – watch your back or they’ll eat you alive. There are creatures out there in the darkness Who will rip out your heart on a dare, So beware: it’s a jungle out there. So beware: it’s a jungle out there. So take care: it’s a jungle out there

You Gave Me Sugar I got but nothing but love for you baby, You’ve been as sweet as can be. But in the end all this sunshine and flowers They really don’t do it for me. You gave me sugar; I wanted spice. That kind love is a little too nice. I pretended it all would work out in the end, But I know now I can’t pay the price. You gave me sugar -- nothing but sugar – I wanted spice. I know people will tell me I’m crazy For letting go of your love, But in the end it’s a world full of flavor And I’m just not getting enough. You gave me sugar; I wanted spice. That kind love is a little too nice. I pretended it all would work out in the end, But I know now I can’t pay the price. You gave me sugar -- nothing but sugar – I wanted spice. Like a kid at a party Who’s had too much ice cream and cake, After a while of nothing but smiles There was only so much I could take. Oh, I know someone’s out there for you, girl, Who wants what you’ve got to give, But in the end time goes by much too fast Not to live the way I want to live. You gave me sugar; I wanted spice. That kind love is a little too nice. I pretended it all would work out in the end, But I know now I can’t pay the price. You gave me sugar -- nothing but sugar – I wanted spice.

Watching "Dawson's Creek" When I heard that Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise Had decided to separate I popped on that first episode from 1998. And I came up with this great critique Just like we used to do. Yeah, I was watching “Dawson’s Creek” and thinking of you. I remember how you first got me into it Back when the show was on the air. We’d parse each line of dialogue, then mock how much we cared. I forget who I was rooting for Or if I ever knew, But still I’m watching “Dawson’s Creek” and thinking of you. And even though we talked for hours I can’t remember anything we said, But it took me years to get the sweet sound Of your laugh out of my head. People tell me that you’re married with a kid, And me I’m driving in my car. I’m trav’ling cross the country now, playing songs on my guitar. And I don’t know much ‘bout Katie Holmes, But I hope she makes it through, And now I’m watching “Dawson’s Creek” and thinking you. Oh, I hope that Katie's happy now, And I hope that you are too. Yeah, I’m watching “Dawson’s Creek” and thinking of you. Yeah, I’m watching “Dawson’s Creek” and thinking of you.

I Don't Wanna Fall I’ve heard about the way you treated other guys you’ve known. You led them on and then you let them down. But that don’t seem to stop me now from acting like a fool The way I do whenever you’re around. I don’t wanna fall in love with you and everything you do and say. I don’t wanna fall in love with you but I’ll do it anyway. I don’t wanna get my mind caught up in all the silly games you play. I don’t wanna fall in love with you but I’ll do it anyway. One day you say you want me then the next you turn around And tell me that you need to have some space. But every time you call me I run right back to your arms, Another sucker for your pretty face. I don’t wanna fall in love with you and everything you do and say. I don’t wanna fall in love with you but I’ll do it anyway. I don’t wanna get my mind caught up in all the silly games you play. I don’t wanna fall in love with you but I’ll do it anyway. Why can’t I resist you? Why can’t I be strong? Why does it have to feel so right when it’s wrong – so wrong? I know that you’ll get tired of me and find somebody new And torture him the way the way you torture me, But ‘til that moment comes I’ll keep on falling at your feet With no concern for pride or dignity. I don’t wanna fall in love with you and everything you do and say. I don’t wanna fall in love with you but I’ll do it anyway. I don’t wanna get my mind caught up in all the silly games you play. I don’t wanna fall in love with you but I’ll do it anyway.

Good Hair Day Got a funny feeling now things are turning around, Feeling like I'm floating now, ten feet off of the ground. Every care I've ever had has just fallen away; Nothing's gonna touch me -- it's a good hair day. People stop and clap for me when I walk down the street. I can give a girl the eye, and she'll fall at my feet. Life is such an easy game when you know how to play. There’s nothing that I can't do on a good hair day. Good hair days, they don't come often. You gotta make 'em work for you. You gotta get down to it and do everything That you always wanted to do. I could be the president, I could walk on the moon. I could play a symphony on a saw and a spoon. Got the strength of fifty men, so don't get in my way. Nothing can defeat me; it’s a good hair day. Nothing that I can't do; it’s a good hair day. Nothing's gonna touch me… it’s a good hair day. Good hair. Good hair. Good hair day.

about

6th album from the man best known for the songs he contributed to the indie films "Happiness," "American Splendor" and "The Tao of Steve.

John Borack writes in "Goldmine" magazine:

Mirsky’s sixth full-length record is most definitely his finest; it’s stuffed with a dozen tunes that showcase the NY-based singer/songwriter’s sharp lyrical observations and way with a winning melody. Aided by multi-instrumentalist/producer Jon Gordon, Mirsky often heads into some relatively uncharted (for him) territory on Funny Money. For example, there are a few uncharacteristically Rolling Stones-like moments on “I’m Gonna Fight It,” which features some cool “Brown Sugar”-like guitar riffing, and “I Saw Something in You,” which also makes good use of some vocal harmonies (Mirsky’s own) on the chorus. Then there’s probably the most tender number Mirsky has ever penned, the absolutely wonderful “Watching Dawson’s Creek.” Over a gently fingerpicked acoustic guitar backdrop, Mirsky nostalgically paints a sweet aural portrait of bonding over the Katie Holmes TV show with a lost love. Terrific bridge on this one, too.

Elsewhere, the soulful, catchy kiss-off “You Gave Me Sugar” is ever-so-slightly reminiscent in spots of that one Maroon 5 song (except it doesn’t suck) while “My Dog Likes Your Dog” is a hilarious, early ‘60s-influenced ditty—with an accordion solo!—that finds the protagonist using his pooch as a means to pick up a girl, using ultra-smooth lines such as “You bring some bits and kibbles, I’ll bring some wine.” (The punch line? He bought the dog just to get the girl.)

Other tunes touch on girl group-styled melodies (“It’s a Jungle Out There”, which Ronnie Spector should cover), ‘60s garage (“Good Hair Day”), a bit of pretty-sounding moodiness (“Plusses and Minuses” ) and Mirsky’s patented power pop stylings, with his lead vocals often recalling the Smithereens’ Pat DiNizio. It’s no joke: Funny Money is one of the best records I’ve heard so far this year. Grade: A

"Easily the most enjoyable LP I’ve heard so far in 2016. It ain’t close." - Powerpopnews.com

Alan Haber of Pure Pop Radio says:

"Eytan Mirsky | Funny Money We’re only about a month and a half into 2016 and already we’ve reviewed and added tracks from two truly outstanding albums: Terry Draper’s Searching and Emitt Rhodes’ Rainbow Ends. We now add another platter to this list of top-notch long players: Eytan Mirsky’s fantastic Funny Money.

Eytan has written a dozen pop classics, all driven by his strong, emotive vocals and a high grade of musicanship, most of it performed by Jon Gordon. We were blown away by everything on offer here, from the rocking title song, a frank look at a partner who isn’t what she appears to be (“Your love is nothing but a game of let’s pretend/What good is money I can’t save and I can’t spend?”) to “Watching ‘Dawson’s Creek,'” the tender examination of a lost union still bound by the love of an old TV show (“And now I’m watching ‘Dawson’s Creek’ and thinking of you/Oh, I hope that Katie Holmes is happy now/And I hope that you are too”).

Funny Money scores on every level, providing a fun listen from first song to last. And a laugh, even as Eytan makes a good point about positivity in one’s life, as in this album’s final number, “Good Hair Day”: “Good hair days, they don’t come often/You gotta make ’em work for you/You gotta get down to it and do everything/That you always wanted to do.” Which Eytan has done on this fantastic album, another of the best of this young year.

We’re playing every track in rotation, from those mentioned above to “I’m Gonna Fight It,” “My Dog Likes Your Dog,” “You Got It Made,” “I Saw Something in You,” “It’s a Jungle Out There,” “You Gave Me Sugar,” and “I Don’t Wanna Fall.” Awesome through and through."
